How does it actually work?

It works on a completely simple and intuitive principle. Simply hold the touch button on the device during the spoken words, then let release the button and the device will immediately translate the requested sentence. 

The Langie is equipped with a built-in 1" touchscreen LCD and a dual system of high-quality speakers and microphones. On the front side of the device is a microphone and speaker through which you can speak in your own language and the person next to you (foreigner) will hear the translation into his native language.
